Furunculosis: symptoms and treatment

Purulent-necrotic manifestations that cause inflammation of the area of the hair follicle and its connective tissues are called furunculosis. In simple terms, this is a form of the disease that manifests itself in the form of purulent formations on the human body — furuncles. Furuncle refers to medical terminology, and in the people it is known as a boil.

This disease does not appear unreasonably, the main causative agent of furunculosis is the bacterium staphylococcus, which penetrates the human body, causes symptoms of the disease. And most often the causative agent of the disease is golden staphylococcus, and in rare cases — white.

Causes of occurrence

Staphylococcus is the main factor responsible for provoking the disease, but often furunculosis can be caused by streptococcal groups A and B, as well as epidermal staphylococcus and other infectious parasites.

A significant role for the development of the disease is played by the following diseases:

  • pathology of the gastrointestinal tract
  • Endocrine system diseases
  • kidney problems;
  • violation of the protective function of skin
  • Chronic spread of infections across the human body

Chronic diseases caused by infectious agents include the following ailments of the nasopharyngeal system: pharyngitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis. The probability of provoking furunculosis through intestinal dysbacteriosis, which is considered to be the focus of a cluster of chronic infections, is not ruled out.

Furunculosis pathogens penetrate the body through micro-traumas, cuts or wounds on the skin, after which falls, there is a purulent-necrotic process. The target factor, which plays the main role in infecting the body with staphylococci, is the immune system. If the human immunity is weakened, then the appearance of furunculosis after ingestion of microbes into the body can not be avoided.

If the immune system is working at the proper level, then the infected staphylococci do not stand a chance of progression and reproduction. Non-compliance with individual rules of human hygiene, the probability of entering the pathogen increases to 90%, since unsanitary conditions are a habitat for pathogenic bacteria.

The boil appeared on the body is the first factor that indicates a decrease in the protective function of the body, and their multiple manifestations indicate a serious malfunction of immunity. There are many well-known reasons for this:

  1. impaired circulation of blood;
  2. signs of general malaise
  3. stress;
  4. overstrain based on mental, physical and emotional influences

The causes of furunculosis may be a metabolic disorder, which is caused by malfunctioning of certain organs. So, it is worth noting that the root cause of furunculosis development lies in the penetration of microorganisms into the human skin, and weakened immunity is a direct factor in the progression of the disease.

Symptomatic of the disease

The presence of furunculosis can be determined by the characteristic symptoms of manifestation. The first symptoms of furunculosis are characterized by the appearance of purulent acne in the area of the hair sac. At first purulent place has insignificant sizes, but after 2-3 days the increase in the hair follicle is noticed. Purulent-necrotic manifestations extend not only to the follicles, but also to the skin and subcutaneous tissues, as well as the sebaceous glands.

Symptoms of the disease are the appearance at first of a small pimple on the body in the follicle area, which has the first two days filling with white color.

Touching or attempting to remove it causes painful sensations that propagate along the circumference of the protuberance.

A furuncle can appear anywhere on the human body, so there are no patterns of its occurrence. But nevertheless it is necessary to allocate the most frequent places of origin of a furuncle:

  • Buttocks
  • Forearm
  • the back of the neck
  • A person.

On the third day after the appearance of the first furuncle, a fluctuation zone is formed along its circumference. Now, when feeling, there is a presence of purulent accumulations in the cavity of the hearth. If you try to squeeze out the content of the boil, then the active release of purulent masses that have been accumulated during this time will begin.

After the release of pus, you can see a small sore, at the bottom of which there is a necrotic stem of green color. It is these symptoms that point directly to the progression of furunculosis in humans.

Further symptoms of malaise are the rejection of the greenish stem, which is secreted with purulent-blood masses. Already after this rod is removed from the place of education, the person is characterized by a feeling of reduction in pain symptoms in the area of activation of the disease. When palpation of the affected area, the sensitivity of pain is markedly reduced.

When furuncles appear in a single form, the person has symptoms of normal state of health, absence of fever, there are no signs of general malaise. If the facial part is mostly affected, then the following symptoms occur:

  1. the patient’s body temperature rises;
  2. body intoxication and headache increase;
  3. there is a change in the color of the skin on the crimson in the place of the focus of manifestation
  4. there is swelling of the face and soreness.

Any attempts to remove a boil on the face only lead to a worsening of the situation: there is thrombophlebitis of the veins. Perhaps further progression of parasites passing and spreading into the internal organs of man.

For information! To prevent damage to the place where the furuncle on the face appeared, you should gently shave, wash, and do not resort to any physical effects.

Acute furunculosis, most often, develops into a chronic appearance, and the reason for this is the lack of appropriate treatment. Coping with the chronic form of the disease is much more difficult, because it periodically throughout life will appear and disappear.

Symptoms in children

For children, it is also common for microbacteria to enter the skin, which causes infection of the site and the appearance of furunculosis. In children, the symptoms of the disease are similar to adults and are characterized by the following symptoms:

  • The appearance of the focus can be observed anywhere in the skin. Exceptions are the places: nose, ears and genitals.
  • Symptoms of ailment are characterized by a phased development. The first stage is caused by the appearance of itching and scabies on the body, where the boil is subsequently released. The site of the subsequent activation of the disease is characterized by a change in skin color, blanching, the appearance of symptoms of tingling pain and numbness. This stage in children lasts for three days, after which the second stage comes.
  • In the second stage of the disease appears a hill with white content. The body temperature rises to 37-38 degrees. The child complains of constant itching in this place, there is a desire to rip it off.
  • When this pustule is opened, it is emptied in the form of pus secretion, after which the condition can stabilize.
  • After complete purification of the internal filling of the pustule, a sore is formed. This ulcer often does not disappear, but is filled with a granulation tissue, resulting in a scar formation. Scars, as is known, do not disappear, therefore it is extremely dangerous the appearance of pustules on the face of the child. First, because of the formation of scars, and, secondly, furunculosis leads to the spread of infection throughout the skull, and even penetration into the brain. As a result, meningitis occurs, and this is already a disease that is fatal.

If you do not treat this disease, then it passes after a while, but this is only an external picture. In fact, there will remain microbacteria, which will continue to progress in the body and cause the appearance of boils. Thus, the disease develops from an acute form to a chronic one. Furunculosis is not a fatal disease, but the complications that this disease can produce affect the vital organs, which leads to a dysfunctional outcome.

Before you treat malaise, you need to establish an accurate diagnosis, because furunculosis is similar in signs and symptoms with the follicle.

Diagnosis

Before treating the disease, it is necessary that an experienced doctor has been given the correct and appropriate diagnosis. Diagnosis of the disease is not particularly difficult and does not require a complete examination of the body. Furunculosis is characterized by symptoms of superficial manifestation, therefore it is not difficult to establish a diagnosis for a specialist.

Initially, an external examination of the skin and places of foci progression is carried out. On the basis of boils, a specialist diagnoses the nature of the disease. If there are doubts, then it is not excluded to carry out an extensive diagnosis with the cause of infection. For this, it will be necessary to pass tests on the bacterial purulent composition of the follicular sac. The doctor also gives a referral for the blood test and immunodiagnostics. If the results do not allow the construction of a picture of the disease, then a complete examination of the person (in very rare cases). Based on the general examination, the cause of reduced immunity (presence of diabetes, blood disease) is determined.

Treatment

The treatment of furunculosis is carried out through a complex effect: local and general therapy.

Local therapy implies a direct effect on the infection for its complete elimination from the body. This therapy includes the reception of antibacterial drugs, analgesics and antiseptics. All this allows to fight the cause of the appearance of the disease — bacteria of staphylococcus and streptococcus.

It is allowed to treat furunculosis using 70% of medical alcohol, hydrogen peroxide and tincture of iodine, which must be rubbed into the abscess for a week. In this case, rubbing is carried out from the periphery to the center in order to exclude the possibility of infection spreading through the skin.

Important! Extrusion furuncle at the stage of treatment or without it is strictly prohibited. This will only exacerbate the situation and lead to the development of severe complications: abscesses, phlegmon.

With furunculosis, antibiotics act as blocking agents. When the antibiotic is treated with a chicken, its spread does not occur, as a result of which the pathogens of the disease die. The timely administration of antibiotics for furunculosis (in the early stages) leads to a slowdown in the progression of the disease and, most importantly, the probability of recurrence of symptoms is eliminated.

On the 5th-6th day, when there is already an unauthorized removal of pus and accumulated masses, it is forbidden to treat with alcohol, the wound can be treated only with the help of gentle means: hydrogen peroxide. When the hearth is completely cleared, it is necessary to switch to rubbing Vishnevsky’s ointment. To treat the disease at this stage can be through warming up, magnetotherapy and UV irradiation.

The treatment of furunculosis with the help of general therapy consists in taking medications to strengthen or restore the immune system. In the case of an exacerbation of the disease, the administration of antibiotic preparations for ingestion is allowed, but only in severe cases. When the temperature rises, it can be lowered by taking antipyretics.

Prevention

Prevention of furunculosis includes maintaining personal hygiene. Any damage to the skin of the skin should be immediately treated with medications and protected from environmental influences. To strengthen immunity, it is necessary to maintain the composition of vitamins in the body, to engage in physical education and health gymnastics. The only way to protect yourself from the appearance of a disease is to maintain the immune system.
