Oophoritis: symptoms and treatment
Oophoritis is an inflammatory process that occurs in the area of the fallopian tubes. As a result of the development of this disease, the fallopian tubes are soldered to the ovaries. As a consequence, infertility may occur. To say exactly what causes the onset of an inflammatory disease, it is impossible. Pathology affects girls aged 25-35 years and women in menopause.
Salpingitis and oophoritis are somewhat interrelated. As a rule, this pathological disease can not appear on its own. The inflammatory process begins because of salpingitis, that is, inflammation of the fallopian tubes. The development of salpingitis can contribute to the following factors:
- infectious diseases
- ailments that are transmitted sexually.
The main reasons that contribute to the progression of the inflammatory process, you can include:
- pathology of the genitourinary system
- pathologies that lead to a significant weakening of the human immune system
- ailments that cause metabolic disorders
- non-regular sexual partners
Salpingitis and oophoritis are two interrelated processes. The first very often entails a second.
The disease can occur in two forms — acute and chronic.
With acute oophoritis, you can observe such symptoms:
- increased, unstable temperature
- highlighting of whitish with a pungent odor
- bleeding in the absence of menstruation;
- lower abdominal pain
- systematic pain in urination
Chronic oophoritis has the following symptoms:
- Acute pain, mainly in the lower abdomen (a characteristic symptom)
- unpleasant sensation during sex
- the instability of the menstrual cycle;
Depending on the condition of the patient, with chronic oophoritis, such additional symptoms are possible:
- increased fatigue;
- Depression, irritation
- Lack of orgasm.
The presence of additional symptoms depends on the cause, which triggered the progression of the pathology. It is worth noting that the above additional symptoms can also be observed with acute oophoritis. Distinguish between chronic oophoritis and acute oophoritis can only be done by instrumental analysis.
The signs of the oophoritis, as a rule, are always pronounced brightly. The patient notes deterioration of her condition, she has pains in the lower abdomen. If there are these signs of ooforitis, you should immediately contact a medical institution.
In modern medicine, the following subtypes of the disease are distinguished:
- bilateral oophoritis
- right-sided oophoritis
- Left-sided oophoritis
Two-sided oophoritis is an inflammation in both ovaries. The signs of the oophoritis in this subtype of the disease correspond to the above points.
With palpation, pain in the lower abdomen and a significant compaction in the ovaries can be felt. For an accurate diagnosis, several instrumental and laboratory studies should be carried out. Symptoms of bilateral oophoritis are similar to appendicitis and salpingitis.
Left-sided oophoritis is the formation of an inflammatory pathological process in the left fallopian tube and ovary. The symptomatology is the same as described above. The only difference is that with left-sided oophoritis, the pain is localized on the left, in the lower abdomen.
Almost the same symptoms are diagnosed with right-sided oophoritis. The pain is localized on the right side, also in the lower abdomen. Diagnosis is exactly the same as with other forms of the disease.
As a rule, complications are possible only with the chronic form of oophoritis of the ovaries and can be manifested as:
- purulent tumor of the uterine appendages;
- the beginning of the adhesion process, which can lead to infertility.
However, if you start the process of getting rid of this disease in a timely manner, then chronic salpingitis and oophoritis proceeds without significant complications.
Diagnosing ailment is quite difficult. For an accurate diagnosis, a number of instrumental, laboratory tests should be performed. It is also very important to know the possible causes of the onset of the disease.
The diagnostic program includes the following:
- general blood and urine analysis
- diagnosis of pelvic organs
- Analyzes to identify infections.
In the event that during the examination infectious diseases that are transmitted by sexual intercourse are detected, additional tests are prescribed.
In addition to the above diagnostic methods, laparoscopy is used. It is this method of instrumental diagnostics that makes it possible to diagnose ovarian inflammation at an early stage and to fully examine the uterus.
This technique is used when the patient complains of systematic pain in the lower abdomen, and the prescribed treatment does not give results.
Unfortunately, such a disease practically excludes the possibility of becoming pregnant. However, if you have the above symptoms, this does not mean that you have oophoritis. Therefore, immediately consult a doctor.
In the process of development of this pathology, the fallopian tubes and ovaries irreversibly change, which makes the process of carrying out the fetus very problematic. If, of course, in general it will be possible to become pregnant.
Pregnant with chronic form or with right-sided oophoritis can still be done if you have a special treatment course before a conception.
It is worth remembering that with such a disease, pregnancy complications are possible:
- Infection of the fetus
- Threat of miscarriage.
Therefore, before getting pregnant, it is worth getting recommendations from a doctor. Treatment of oophoritis should be performed only by a highly qualified specialist.
The course of treatment directly depends on the causes that triggered the progression of the disease in the ovaries and fallopian tubes.
Treatment of oophoritis is carried out only in a steady state.
The course of treatment is appointed after finding out the exact cause of the development of the disease and conducting the diagnosis. It is necessary to prescribe drugs anesthetic spectrum of action and antibiotics. At the initial stage, if there are no contraindications, ice can be applied to the lower abdomen to reduce pain.
If the acute stage of the disease is diagnosed, then, in addition to medication, a course of physiotherapeutic procedures is prescribed. In the event that the adhesion process has not yet begun, resorptive drugs and the following procedures are prescribed:
- gynecological massage
- Mud treatment.
If the reception of antibiotics and other medications does not give results, then surgery is possible — complete removal of the ovaries (this treatment is radical).
Self-medication in this case is unacceptable, since the disease can not only go to a chronic stage, but also cause a serious complication — infertility. Folk remedies can be used only in tandem with synthetic medications and only with the permission of the attending physician.
It is possible to prevent oophoritis only partially. Since the ailment can be formed due to sexually transmitted infections, it is worth to carefully treat the intimate side of your life, to choose the right contraceptives.
In addition, it is necessary to adhere to such rules:
- avoid hypothermia;
- monitor the hygiene of the genitals
- eat right;
- at least twice a year undergo examination by a gynecologist.
If you have one or two symptoms, you should immediately contact your gynecologist. At the initial stage, oophoritis can be cured.
